The Emergency Allowance is a contribution which aims to provide an immediate response to occasional situations, arising from contingencies or difficulties having a negative impact on the student’s normal academic performance, which do not fall under the scope of the DGES support.
Students who find themselves in an occasional and exceptional situation of duly proven economic need are eligible. Portuguese and foreign students with a permanent residence permit or refugees with temporary protection can benefit from this subsidy. The criteria for preference, in case of equal candidacy, is academic merit.
The amount of the allowance cannot exceed the amount of the approved tuition fee for the respective academic year. The allowance will be paid in a single instalment. The overall amount of the allowance is subject to the financial availability of the Social Support Fund.
The contribution allocated will be made, in agreement with the student, in the following ways:
a) Through meal vouchers valid for SASNOVA food units;
b) Through a contribution, total or partial, to the costs of accommodation in SASNOVA university residences;
c) Through a contribution, total or partial, to the tuition fees paid by students on the course in which they are enrolled;
d) Through other types of goods related to school activity.
